Windows 7 Phone

This is a fresh, bold and brand new mobile Operating System from Microsoft. This is also Version 1.0. Now, about 6 phones are being launched with this OS, in United States. The phones are Sprint HTC7 Pro, Samsung Focus, AT&T LG Quantum, HTC HD7, Venue Pro of Dell on T-Mobile, and HTC Surround. Though Verizon announced that it comes with support of OS by 2011, no clear cut commitments are made.

Most of these primary phones using this Operating System run Qualcomm processor QSD8250, chipset of ARM Cortex-A8 running with speed of 1 GHz. They feature screens with a resolution of 800 X 480 pixels with a camera of 5 megapixels. They also feature FM radio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. These mobiles may have different features regarding keyboard hardware, preloaded software, camera quality, available storage and performance of the phones.  The home screen of Windows Phone 7 is with a new feature known as “live tiles”, where the screen is made with bright colored blocks. These tiles are not just icons or widgets, they may be apps too. Those apps include contact book, Xbox Live, “Video & Music” etc and when the screen is moved to right, the traditional menu of App can be seen.

This OS is pretty but not quick. The screen keeps flipping, twisting and sliding whenever possible. Geeks become furious with this behaviors as the data they need, cannot be obtained quickly. Yet this type of system will be loved by artistic people.

Dual touch keyboards handle the entry of text. One type is landscape and the other type is portrait. These are fine keyboards in which letters bug out when pressed and auto correct facility is also available. Surely this keyboard is far better than previous Android keyboards. Manufacturers and carriers are not allowed to mess up this OS interface. Microsoft allows them to add 6 applications instead, which are removable. Reviews of individual mobiles are to be checked for extra info.

Live ID of Windows has to be added for accessing Xbox live, Marketplace and hotmail. Google, AOL, Yahoo, Microsoft e-mail and IMAP/POP are also supported by Windows Phone 7. Look of the e-mail looks so great on full HTML. Contacts from Google, Windows Live, and Facebook and Outlook calendars synchronize with their respective ones. PIM information will not be synced with this OS, with PC’s locally, affecting few users of Outlook. For social networking on Facebook, Windows mobile is very dependant. All communications are not possible in Windows mobile as it is version 1.0. Hence twitter app is not seen in the address book. MySpace is also absent.  The implementation of Microsoft Office in the phones running Windows phone 7 is amazingly excellent. All works regarding Excel, Word, and Power point can be done using this. One single erroneous note on this is that copying the files from and to the desktop is not an easy task.  Xbox live is well developed for gamin and is already competing with Apple.
