Samsung Ships 20 Million Galaxy S II in 10 Months

Samsung has posted updated sales figures for its Galaxy S II smartphone, claiming that it has shipped some 20 million units of Galaxy S II within 10 months of its launch. With such figures, the smartphone has become Samsung’s most famous smartphone.

The figures provided by Samsung are based on both domestic and overseas markets. The Galaxy S II achieved this milestone far quicker than its previous model, the Galaxy S. Considering the two devices, the Korean electronics giant has also shipped some 40 million units of its Galaxy S smartphone. But the way it is selling its successor, it would certainly be announced as its bestseller in coming future.

Interestingly, the figures provided are just accounted for the number of units Samsung shipped to operators and don’t include the number of units it has sold, says Samsung. However, it is not an easy task to get a true picture of Samsung sales at the moment, as verified in the quarterly financial reports.

It doesn’t mean that Samsung’ provided figure are incorrect, but it is blurred at the moment so as to compare them with its competitor firms, such as Apple, accurately, which shipped some 37 million iPhones in its last quarter.

As of October, Samsung sold over 30 million units of both Galaxy S and Galaxy S II smartphones all across the world. Both its devices broke the company’s sales records since their launch. Until now, the Galaxy S II has accounted for over 10 million sales, a fastest selling device in the Samsung history, while its predecessor fell short of 20 million sales since its launch in 2010.

The Galaxy S is offered for sale in a very small number of outlets because of company’s recent updates to its smartphone range, also the device has not been included in the Samsung’s recent roll out to Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Last month’s financial reports clearly showed that the company surpassed its preliminary financial estimates to post record operating profit of 5.3 trillion won ($4.72 billion), 75% up year on year. All credit goes to increased number of smartphone shipped, memory chips and flat-panel sales.
