Paper.li App

Paper.li is a very similar app to Flipboard app of Apple iPad. This is a product from Smallrivers, a Swiss based company. This app allows users to make newspapers that are personalized, filled up with articles picked from links that are posted on Facebook’s contacts and feeds of Twitter. Paper.li also makes the content pulled from Twitter links that are shared into a very understandable news-paper like set up in Web browser, and thus makes content obtainable from any PC i.e. web connected.

This app does a great job looking like a print publication as well as holding the functionality of Twitter. Only thing is it doesn’t have the multi-touch page-turning experience as Flipboard, but it’s not a major problem. Over the top of page there is the name of it and the Twitter avatar of the creator. There is an icon known as “Alert Me” on the page, in the centre with a black bar, which allows the user to put in the email id and the user will be informed with the updates of the paper, next day. “Promote it” is another icon on the page which allows the user to post the paper on Twitter or you can place the code of the paper on your website.

The main content lies south to black bar. Here the sum-up of the Twitter links and the name of those users on Twitter will be displayed as neat little rectangles and squares. There is an option where clicking on the name will display the real tweet along with many options like retweet, follow, favorite and unfollow. Messaging directly is not noticed in this app. Content that is posted on Facebook will not be pulled by Paper.li, as Flipboard.

This app is personal type available for free. The operating systems that are compatible with App are Windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS, Windows Linux and Vista. YouTube videos can be watched by simply clicking the links that are present in the “Media” section. Sorting off the content by Paper.li is very impressive. For instance, when a user using Twitter which music-themed, posts a link regarding jazz music, it is sorted into the group of Arts and Entertainment.

There is no requirement of creating an account for using paper.li. The user can directly enter into that to read or create papers. The portion above on the paper has a search icon for obtaining papers while the lower half has feeds from twitter. Searching for papers that are needed is very easy using the app.

Paper.li pull links from the people you follow on twitter along with the people who follow you, which is little annoying.  On paper.li creating a new paper is often proved difficult. It is easier to read a paper that already exists than creating a new paper. Another annoying factor is that many ads will be displayed on pages that are created. On the whole, paper.li is surely the best alternative to Flipboard of iPad, though Facebook integration is missing in this app. It enables you to see twitter once daily.
