Huawei Ascend Smartphone Review

An Android smart phone running on Android 2.1 OS with sleek and attractive design from Huawei is Ascend which features a 3.5 inch HVGA display. It has Swype user-interface for giving input and also has a file manager application. The Huawei Ascend lacks in call quality and offers a 2.5mm headphone jack instead of standard 3.5mm jack which is more popular now in smart phones. There are lots of pre-loaded apps which is confusing for users and there is call end option in the dialer interface.

Though Huawei is not very popular in U.S, with introduction of Ascend it is slowly getting its name among U.S customers. The price of Huawei Ascend is $150 along with 2-years contract with Cricket Wireless. The phone has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G supports and includes a 3.5 inch HVGA touch screen. It has excellent build-quality and comes with an attractive and sleek headset. There are plenty of pre-loaded apps from Cricket Wireless. The rounded corner, glossy black design and polish chrome sides give an aesthetic look for the phone. The phone’s dimensions are 4.5×2.4x.055 inches and could fit inside your pant pockets easily and feel solid when you hold in your hands. The touch screen has native resolution of 480×320 pixels and has support for 262,000 colors. The virtual keyboard has well-spaced large buttons which are comfortable to press. The Swype feature is intuitive and allows smooth navigation of menus.

There are 4 buttons including Back, Menu and stylish End and Talk keys. There is a trackball below the display. The physical controls require very hard touch but the trackball is easy to use. The volume rocker, micro SD slot and camera button are well placed in left and right spines of the camera. The micro USB port for charging and 2.5mm headphone jack is present on top of the phone. Thee 3.2 megapixel camera is present at rear of the phone which is good for taking pictures.

The phone includes the standard android apps for messaging, e-mail and web access. The onscreen navigation bar has plenty of cartoonish icons for contact list, phone book, app tray, home screens and text composition. The phone includes default features like voice dialing, threaded multimedia and text messaging, speaker phone and wireless connectivity features including GPS, Wi-FI, 3G and Bluetooth. You can store innumerable contacts in phone book with all details like e-mail, company name, group ID, IM handles etc. The Android apps include standard HTML browser, Gmail, Google Maps, Youtube, Google Places, audio recorder etc. There is also a file manager application which is easy to use. The phone’s standby time is 12.4 days and talk time is 3.5 hours which is way to less than its competitors. But Huawei Ascend is a good smart phone with interesting Android features at an affordable price for average users.
